With permission from Past President Ray, we have included the notes from his very thoughtful and moving tribute to the Rotary Club Millicent from their final meeting on 18 June 2026.
Last Hoorah
Millicent are in their 70th year being chartered by RC Mount Gambier on 20th May 1957.
To DGE Tonie, President Tin, members, past members and friends, whilst this is an occasion tinged with a large amount of sadness, it certainly is one for substantial celebration, as witnessed by the significant attendance.
Congratulations to the members for the outstanding contributions that have been made to assist and improve the lives and assets of the community of Millicent.
Many members have gained personal skills from being part of the club and in turn have contributed back to the community. Many notable Rotarians have passed through the doors of Millicent including often guests to Westies of PDG Winton Thorpe (72-73), Pharmacist Kevin Donaldson, Bill Degaris & PDG Steve Hill.
Millicent’s contribution to Rotary Youth Exchange is legendary, with significant contributions being made by the club and especially Ken & Jenny Haines. We also remember the Art Show, Rotary Park, including Peace Posts, Chip Van catering, support of School and Youth programs and recognitions are among many others. Group Study Exchange GSE was another wonderful vocational exchange program, which sent Max Clarke, Jim Osborne and others overseas.
Enjoy your memories.
As evidenced tonight, volunteers live longer!
From the fertile flats of Millicent. a club was spawned.
You have had a whale of a time.
Now are beached for the moment,
Perhaps to be refloated as a Companion Club.
Well done, congratulations, farewell.
