 Hi Team,

Thank you to everyone who attended meeting 2840 at Macs. Unfortunately I was unable to attend and Greg kindly stepped up with little notice, thank you Greg! Also in attendance we had Harry Long discussing Australian Scouts and Lisa made her debut as Sergeant.

I would also like to advise the Bulletin will be taking a two-week break. The family and I are retiring to a warmer climate for two weeks, but will be back in time for Mr Chris Lang, from Mount Gambier City Council's presentation on 25 August.

The next two weeks meetings will be jam packed, see the details below, and I look forward to braving the weather with everyone this weekend at our Bunnings Sausage Sizzle.  If you haven't signed up yet, please see Neville.

Attracting and Retaining International Migrants in Rural and Regional Communities: Dream or illusion?

Dr David Radford as Associate Professor (Sociology) at UniSA Justice and Society will be presenting the findings of his recent research projects into refugee settlement in regional Australia and how interculturalism is unfolding around the world.

Many rural and regional communities in Australia struggle to sustain their population and economic growth. Attracting and retaining international migrants and refugees is viewed as one critical pathway to address these challenges. The key issues are well documented: limited employment opportunities, available and affordable housing, insufficient migrant support services, access to health services and suitable education, and welcoming communities. Other challenges are equally pressing including maintaining social cohesion, racism and experiences of structural inequalities.

It sounds like Dr Radford will provide a lot to think about, and of course UniSA will provide the refreashments!
