Hi Team,

I have had reports that whilst Greg did an amazing job, meeting 2849 was not the same without me...

The meeting was opened by Michael in his first Sergeant appearance in 24 years! but like riding a bike, he didn't miss a beat and even got a few laughs with his invocation.

David asked for a volunteer to assist with a BBQ on the 18 November to feed a crew of tradies. O'Brien Electrical have volunteered their staff for a half day to fix up the storage shed.  They will rewire the whole shed, patch the roof around the pipe, rebuild the shelving and perform a general tidy up.  This was to support Four Reasons Why, and will be a great help to downsize and keep things tidy going forward.

Neville called for someone to fill in for Lambert at Mil Lel to which Brian was happy to step up for.  The roster for the Mount Gambier Show will be coordinated once we have Mil Lel done and dusted.

Until next time.
Mil Lel Show Update
The sun was shining, the ponies were jumping and the oven was... not firing. Neville, Brian, Greg, David C, and I had a worrying start to the day changing gas bottles over and phoning the plumbers before Paradise Pizza's came to the rescue by cooking the pizzas for Greg to collect. Nothing like a bit of a challenge to get the blood pumping.

Despite the delayed start, we still managed a steady stream of patrons and even managed to save the District Council of Grant's gazebo from becoming airborne.

Final profit from the event will be revealed by Brian on Tuesday.

Mount Gambier West has always had its roots in the outer periphery of Mount Gambier. As such, we thought Westies might be interested in the District Council of Grant community meetings. The sessions are to highlight upcoming projects and priorities.

Four meetings will be held at Council owned facilities beginning at 5:30pm on:

  • Monday 13 October 2025 to hear updates on the Inner Township Master Plan projects. Hosted at the Principal Officer;
  • Monday 27 October 2025 to hear updates on the Saleyards Transformation Project. Hosted at the Mount Gambier & District Saleyards;
  • Monday 10 November 2025 to hear updates on the Airport Master Plan Projects. Hosted at the Mount Gambier Regional Airport; and
  • Monday 24 November 2025 to hear updates on the Coastal Adaptation Strategy. Hosted at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex.

Bluefield Housing as Alternative Infill for the Suburbs, UNISA

"A grand vision for a future of housing and practical guide for how to achieve it."

Professor Damian Madigan is an architect and urban infill housing researcher who coined the term ‘Bluefield Housing’ to describe the established suburbs.

Professor Madigan will present this new housing model and discuss the often-contentious issue of how to increase housing supply and diversity while retaining the low-rise housing and landscape character that we love in our suburbs. Along the way, he’ll demonstrate that density increases, and the retention of neighbourhood character can co-exist in an increasingly complex housing crisis
Judith's Oceans to Outback RFDS Fundraiser

Australia is a big country, and for those living in remote, rural and regional areas, access to immediate care isn’t a guarantee. For some communities, the nearest hospital is eight hours drive away.

This October, I’m taking on a month-long fitness challenge to help more people access the care they need. By going further, I hope to raise as much as possible for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

Every year, the RFDS reach more than 330,000 Australians with 24-hour emergency retrieval and primary healthcare services. That’s one person every two minutes!

Together, we can keep the Flying Doctor flying and continue their life-saving work. Please donate to my challenge today!

71 KM and counting!
