Meeting 2871 was a social meeting at Macs with an entertaining member talk from our very own Peter Braithwaite. Before we got to the main event we ran through a few items. I confirmed that the PA system had been ordered, and that our community leader Jeff was in communication with the Strathdownie Hall committee who put forward three dates for our combined meeting, the proposed dates are the 17th, 24th, and 31st of May. There was no date preference expressed by club members.

We went on to discuss a potential major project for the club, there were a few good suggestions ranging from prostate awareness through to building a Peace Park, these suggestions were further discussed at the subsequent board meeting. The executive are reviewing the history of the Peace Park project with a view to progressing it.

Peter gave us an excellent member talk regaling us with tales of his life ranging from his early life in the Mount as one of six siblings, working in the family furniture business, his time in banking, where he had to play armed guard to a Ute full of 50c pieces for 3 days! Through to starting his own business Slumber World later transitioning to Forty Winks which was eventually sold to his eldest son allowing him to transition out of the business. Thanks again Peter, it was an entertaining talk.

Until next time...

Next Week

Meeting 2872 will be at Macs Hotel for fellowship and food.

Story Dogs - Impact for Kids
Story Dogs have received a bit of coverage this month with Volunteers required across the Limestone Coast to support schools in our region.

In one term, I have seen a little boy who started on level 12 reach level 25 by the end. The little boy’s teacher is amazed, but watching him with 'Holly', it is clear that he just needed a reason to sit still while he reads. Patting 'Holly' while reading was the perfect excuse.

Did you see the announcement from Rotary International who recognized six club members aged 30 or younger as People of Action: Champions of Tomorrow. The recipients, based in Colombia, India, Italy, the Philippines, Uganda, and the U.S., have led transformative initiatives by and for young people.

Rotary projects around the globe March 2026
The article by Brad Webber was featured in March's Rotary Magazine. It has stories covering England, Canada, Japan, USA and Malta.

From Bollywood styled and Volleyball fundraisers to Historic tombstones. We could learn a few things from Malta's event focussed on raising their profile not funds and Japan's Music Mends Minds could be a great local project.
