What a terrific meeting “rollover” was, we finished the year as I want to start the next, with a bit if fun! It was really great to have so many members and guests in attendance and David certainly went out with a bang! Raising $232 for the big boxes and he was successful in getting members and guests to take it all home! Even if we did have to sneak a few bits and pieces into Ray's shopping bag at the end of the night to get rid of the last of it!
Personally, I really enjoyed Frank’s photographs, looking back at past projects and hearing some of the stories surrounding past members and projects was a real joy. This is something I want to talk more about next week, we’ve got the photos, if we can put them together with the stories then this club history can be captured and utilised to promote the things we’ve done and the type of club we are.
I’ve slated next week as a planning meeting, specifically for programs, but more than happy to have a broader discussion around projects and general direction for the club. Please bring any and all ideas and suggestions with you.
We are rolling into this year without a dedicated Sergeant. This is a key role for the club with Sergeant boosting morale and funds along with keeping meetings moving. If you would like to nominate, please contact Neil or Ray otherwise my plan is to implement a rotational roster, that will be included in the Bulletin each week, so we all know who is doing what.

Professor Andrew Beer is the Executive Dean of UniSA Business, a former Chair of the UK’s Regional Studies Association and a Fellow of the UK’s Academy of Social Science. Over the past 30 years he has worked on issues relating to the drivers of economic success for Australia’s regions, and has worked with the Regional Australia Institute, Australian Government agencies such as the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regions, Communications and the Arts, as well as the OECD and the European Union on a range of projects focussed on how best to deliver growth. Some of the most disadvantaged Australians live in our non-metropolitan regions. This is a problem that has been evident for more than 50 years, but regional Australia continues to be confronted by lower incomes, higher levels of unemployment in many places, lower life expectancy, reduced access to services, poorer health outcomes across as suite of measures and lower levels of educational attainment. In some places this disadvantage has become entrenched across generations. Professor Beer’s presentation considers how local communities – such as Mount Gambier – can take the first steps towards shaping a more productive policy environment. Effectively ‘leading from below’ to generate the policies and opportunities that best meet their needs and offer the most productive pathways to success.
