Last Meeting: Dale McDonald and Corrie Morris - Men's Circle

This week we welcomed Dale MacDonald and Corrie Morris to our Club to talk about Men's Circle, a local grassroots initiative founded by Dale which focuses on cultivating healthy masculinity.  Dale explained how he initiated Men's Circle to create a space where men of all ages and backgrounds are able to come together to share and to grow through structured and honest conversation.

Mens Circle is a grassroots movement for good men to become better together. The conversations focus on a new theme each month, such as purpose, addiction, or communication.  These are not therapy sessions but rather a growth space where guided questions prompt reflection and facilitate the sharing of wisdom.

Initially Mens Circle had very few participants but Dale persevered with his passion to help men become better blokes.  He has continued to keep listening and refining his sessions with a focus on change conversations to focus on how to heal and grow not on failure.  He has worked to create a culture of healthy masculinity, respect toward older men for their wisdom and a goal of helping blokes become better together, for their community, their families  and themselves.

Sessions are run at 3:45pm every third Sunday of the month at The Studio, 1A Wirraway St Taminda.  These comprise of currently 10 to 15 bloke conversations every month. Men are encouraged to share what they take from the experience.  A common demographic participant are men in the 30 to 55 age bracket where life changes find them juggling married life, children and career which create a lot of pressure.  Unfortunately men often suppress rather than discuss their built up issues and stresses.  Dales sessions utilise strategies to prompt participants to reflect and encourage them open up and share problems.

Dale expressed a belief that when men feel supported, they show up better for their families and communities. He left members with a powerful call to action to practice "active support" by proactively reaching out to friends, as a genuine human connection can make a profound difference to men's health.

In addition to Mens Circle Dale also undertakes a number of other group offerings including Boxing at the PCYC, Yoga and Meditation classes and undertakes drug and alcohol place work with Rosalie House in Tamworth.

If you are interested in finding out more about Mens Circle you can call Dale on 0491 168986 or follow the link below to the Mens Circle Web Page.

Dale also provided the flyer attached to this post to Tamworth's first ever International Mens Day on November 19 at the Tamworth Jockey Club. This event aims to help men connect and celebrate the roles of men in our families workplaces and communities, build awareness of local supports for men and their communities and encourage open conversations.

Thanks so much to Dale and Corrie for joining us at the meeting tonight and opening the door to conversation around the importance of men building healthy masculinity.

Thanks to Peter Dillon and James Hindmarsh for the notes.

General Business:

·     Myself and James Hindmarsh attended the Calala Rotary opening of their basketball court which went off quite well.

·     We were invited to Calala Rotary for a  Wednesday night meeting later on in the year and since nobody at the meeting had no major objections I will speak with James, their President, and get back to you with a date on that meeting. It will be a Wednesday night at Cascada just near the AELEC 6:00pm for 6:30pm.

·     We have a bit more to do at the Rotary Airport Rest Area as far as a working bee, we have

b)     Three table and chair sets to have a second coat of paint.

c)     Mowing/ edging and getting rid of branches and vegetation which is two thirds done in front of the play area and old tractor display.

d)     We will be chasing a few more trailers this time to get rid of that vegetation.

At this stage we are looking at Saturday 6 December at 9:00am and we will discuss this again as the date gets closer.

·     Please remember the AGM is with our normal meeting on 8 December not next week, my mistake.

·     We now have a menu and costs for the Christmas Party on the Monday 15 December 6:30pm for 7:00pm.(See the Menu below )

Healthy Masculinity was quite a relevant topic to many of our members and obviously highlights a wider need in the community for men to communicate. A flyer for their next meeting will be attached to this bulletin.

Our guest speakers were introduced by James Hindmarsh and thanked by Allan Guan.

The Sergeant this week was Brian Cox and came up with some quite interesting fines.

Heads and tails tonight was won by Dale McDonald our guest speaker and Phil Chaseling.

Calala Rotary Park Official Opening - was held at 10:00 am on Sunday 2 November, a project of Calala Rotary Club.  A number of our members including President Scott Edwards attended, along with representatives of the combined Rotary Clubs of Tamworth and Tamworth Regional Council. The key attraction to the opening was the new Basketball Court which Farrar Students arrived to play some basketball after the official opening.  Kevin Anderson officially opened the facility and key sponsors of the Park were named, thanked and signposted around the Park.  This is a great tribute to Calala Rotary Club and they are certainly to be congratulated on creating such a great community recreational facility.

Fun fact of the 300 trees planted some 15 years ago they only lost 4.  An amazing feat considering the elements in the Tamworth Region.  Some photos from the event below.
