PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Busier meeting than usual this week. Some confusion with the RSVP sheet and hopefully Secretary Pete will have that sorted next week.
Our guests this week were Jim Hombsch’s chauffer Paul, and Alison McGaffin our Guest speaker who were welcomed by Ron Carr and thanked by Peter Smith.
Updates on our members not present, Geoff Galloway presently has Covid, Jim Booth has a cold and Don Eather had a battle with the dentist today and should be back next week.
Chris Lang with the approval of Tony Summers, spoke about the possibility of buying a second hand coffee van and fitting the current slide out BBQ from our trailer into it to set up as a catering van. This gained approval from the majority of the members of the Club and we will look further into that at the Board meeting in the following weeks, once Chris follows up on some more information.
General Business
· The International on line mega meeting is on Tuesday 24th at 9:30pm, a difficult time for members join in.
· We had a request from District to submit some photographs of some of our Club’s service events which James Hindmarsh promptly replied with commentary and three photographs of Oakburn Park Car meeting, the Airport Park and the Motor Show. Thank you James!
· We have been asked again to man the BBQ for the Westpac Helicopter Tamworth Golf Day on Friday 8 May 2026, which members indicated we are quite happy to do, further information coming on this.
· Tamworth Regional Council have a new volunteer services officer Elissa Wesche and I will forward her information to Chris in regard to having Elissa along as a guest speaker.
· We also have an invitation to the Billabong Club House Opening of the new multi purpose room, see the attached flyer in the bulletin.
· We also have a request from First Light for volunteers for their Science and Engineering Challenge for 2026 on the 17 – 20 March. Mal Macpherson and Graeme Mills have volunteered for this request. Anyone else wishing to volunteer please, contact Peter Johnson on 0409 750 002 for further information.
Our guest speaker Alison McGaffin a former Group Study Exchange student from approximately 35 years ago, Alison spoke quite passionately about her experiences and impact that Rotary on her life since then, and we would also note that Alison either knows, or related to, approximately ¾ of the Club. Alison was a very well received speaker and hope to see her again as a future speaker.
Our Sergeant tonight was Phil Lyne who again came up with some irrelevant but entertaining fines.
The winners of Heads and Tails was won by our guests Paul Hombsch and Alison McGaffin.
Our speaker next week is Mark Austin from the Tamworth Distillery.
Please check the bulletin for the roster assignments.
Cheers
Scott
