A rather informative meeting this week.
Our only guest was Paul Hombsch who has taken chauffeuring duties from Gavin while he is away. Paul was ably welcomed by Dave McDonald.
Ron Carr gave some information on the menu and set up for the Fire brigade breakfast barbeque coming up on 8 March 2026.
General Business:
· Our gate duties at the Tamworth Sporting Car Club on Saturday 14 February went off rather well and we are waiting to hear how much the Sporting Car Club is donating to the club, it will be at least $700.00.
· See the next bulletin for the International Women’s Day flyer, if any of the members or wives are interested it the event.
· Gordon has put forward his thoughts on the barbeque trailer and catering equipment issues which the Board is currently mulling over and getting further information. Tony Summers did come up with quite a good idea that buying a second hand coffee van, many of them are available at the moment, and installing a roll out barbeque in that. It may solve a lot of our issues and actually be a better fundraising thing as coffee and a barbeque is obviously going to lead to more sales. But further investigation will be carried out in the following weeks by the Board in this matter and we will get back to the Club as information comes through.
· Secretary Pete did have some contact with West Bowling Club saying that they are now attached to South Bowling Club. They would be happy to have our meetings again at the South Bowling Club, not the West Bowling Club, but the membership was unanimous about staying at the Family Hotel and that we are quite happy there.
· With regard to the Clubs 70th Birthday/ Changeover, it looks like the current DG has accepted our invitation with the DG elect having her information sent to her but we haven’t heard back as yet.
Fine session this week was run by Frank Henry and as usual, was quite fun and entertaining and made the treasurer happy with the contents of the bird.
Our speaker this week was James Hindmarsh, talking about his excellent ideas for membership growth and retention, which obviously started quite a bit of conversation in the club and is something that we are going to have to concentrate on if the club is to grow and continue, otherwise the club will decline. The only thing James didn’t mention is the possibility of holding information days at some of the retirement villages where we have members residing and trying to source new members from that captive audience, more to discussed on that matter later on.
Heads and Tails this week was won by Col Quast and Mal McPherson respectively.
Next week the meeting is back at the Family Hotel. Please see the bulletin for the job assignments and our speaker is Alison McGaffin who participated 35 years ago in the Rotary Group Study Exchange.
Cheers Scott
