President Jim of Calala Rotary welcomed our club last night followed with a brief history of the club since charter in 1984, listing the long list of in inaugural members.
Fred Edwards gave a lengthy overview of his involvement with FAIM in PNG illustrated with photos of locals and projects involving his team which included son Scott and our Peter Dillon
Ray Dart talked about the Calala clubs main fund raiser "Peel St. Markets"
The markets normally on the 3rd Sunday of the month are managed by Suzzane Williams who incidentally also manages the Tamworth community markets which I am a member held on 2nd 4th Saturday's in Bicentennial Park
Ray and his other club members assist on market day to ensure all the stall holders and the clients are happy.
Cooperation with T.RC has been helpful particularly in parking issues
The club distributes all $30000 per year from the markets back into the local community
Our president Scott then gave a rundown on TWR clubs car show, manning of gates at Oakburn Park, numerous bbqs, rest area refurbishment and some of our many community projects
Chris Lang spoke of our search for a new catering van ,hopefully with coffee equipment.
Chris also reminisced of his time as an apprentice with Mike Donoghoe one of Calala club’s charter members.
Phil Lyne then brought us all up to date on his endeavour to make the TWRC changeover/70th aniversary on 14/06 a success it will no doubt be.
Geoff Galloway talked about our new Clubrunner facility
We also heard about a school to be built at John Hunter hospital .more details to come on that.
All in all with a great meal and fellowship with some of the 10 members of the club our 21 members present were keen for further visits of this nature.
