DANIL Glukhov is a University student from Irkutsk Russia and is in Ballarat for a month to observe and learn as much as he can about our way of life.
He was shown the finer points of Aussie Rules by the Captain of the Sebastopol Football Team but found the oval ball quite challenging to handle.

Strange shape ball: Russian student Danil Gluknov trying hits out a hand ball to Sebastopol reserve captain Jayden Edwards, on hand is player Dylan Watsone before the game Saturday.
He is being hosted by the Rotary Club of Ballarat West and his visit is part of an exchange program that has existed between District 9780 Victoria, Australia, and District 5010 Siberia, Russia. This program was implemented by our District and Centennial Baikal-Eco Club (Russia), as part of the Rotary International’s New Generations Program. Danil is an intern from Baikal International Business School, Irkutsk State University (Russia).
Youth exchange programs are an important part of Rotary activities and Danil will be given the opportunity to spend the month experiencing at least four different work environments to help him understand the business management, marketing and financial practices of Australia. He will attend Rotary Club meetings and projects to observe the work of volunteer organisations. The aim of the visit is to give Russian students a better understanding of our way of life.
While in Ballarat he will discover the richness of the City of Ballarat and surrounds. He will spend two weeks at Sovereign Hill in the Marketing Department and the Volunteer Program, immersing himself in our early history and culture.
There will be work experience in the offices of Ballarat City Council to observe the administrative processes of running the City and finally, to work with one of the Rotarians in his business.
He would love to see the ocean and maybe go swimming. “I would be incredibly happy to try surfing and would love the opportunity to both watch and play any team sports while I’m in Ballarat”.
A perfect way to get to know the Aussie way of life, but he might need a wetsuit or go a bit further north for that surfing experience.
