Richard Thayer

Richard Senior Thayer was District Manager for B.F. Goodrich Tire Company when he presided as  President of the Derby‐Shelton Rotary Club in 1966‐1967.  Prior to that he was Manager of their retail  store on Howe Avenue in Shelton.  Dick was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on April 8, 1929, son of Elliot Pierce and Barbara Senior  Thayer.  He was a veteran having served in the US Navy during the Korean War in 1950‐1952.  

While in  Connecticut he and wife Patricia lived in the Lordship area of Stratford.  He was an avid sailor and served  as Commodore of the Housatonic Boat Club in Stratford.  Upon retirement, he moved his family to  Weymouth to his ancestral home called Thayer’s Landing where he spent his remaining years on the  water where he could enjoy his favorite pastime of sailing.  Dick Thayer, community supporter, passionate sailor, Rotary President and all around good‐guy passed  away on May 20, 1996 at the age of 56.
