Stanley Meyers

Stanley Meyers was president of the Club in 1985‐1986. A native of Baltimore, MD, he received a B.A.  degree for West Virginia Wesleyan and later attended Johns Hopkins University and Yale University.  After serving in the military, he worked at the Jewish Children’s Bureau in Chicago which was a  residence for emotionally challenged children and possibly provided him the incentive for a lifetime of  work assisting the mentally challenged.  He also worked in public relations for the USO and the Jewish Community Council of Bridgeport assisted  the Community Chest (now United Way)    He was the first executive director for Parents and Friends of Mentally Retarded Children ( now known  as the Kennedy Center). 

He served as the Superintendent of the New Haven Regional Residential Center  for Mentally Retarded Children and Adults and was Director of Community Services in the Office of  Mental Retardation of the State Health Department.  

He also served as technical consultant to the Vocational Rehabilitation Administration of the  Department of Health Education and Welfare in Washington D.C.  In the Valley, he worked with the Valley Association for Retarded Children and Adults (VARCA) and  Birmingham Mental Health Services.  His avocation was dramatics. He and his wife Vera were very active in a number of theatrical groups in  the area.  He retired to Boynton Beach, Florida where he passed away at the age of 77 on November 20, 2007.
