Dr. Edward Bednar

Dr. Edward G. Bednar served as President of the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club for 1970-1971. He was born January 5, 1933, in Bridgeport, son of the late Edward J. and Marie Hadjus Bednar. He was a practicing dentist in Derby for nearly 50 years and also a partner of the Bednar-Osiecki Funeral Home in Ansonia. He was married to Margaret (Peggy) Dorsey of Philadelphia and the father of four daughters. He resided in Woodbridge. Dr. Bednar was a graduate of Fairfield Prep and the University of Pennsylvania College and Dental Schools, and was dedicated to all of his patients. 

 

He was an active member of the Connecticut Dental Society and past president of the Naugatuck Valley Dental Society. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and a retired Captain in the US Naval Reserves, where he served for 35 years. He had many civic accomplishments outside of Rotary including being an active member of the Derby-Shelton Boys and Girls Club, past member of the Board of Directors for the Boy Scouts of America, and a member of St. Joseph Church, Ansonia, where he served on the parish counsel. He was also a past president Graduate Chapter of the Connecticut Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity, a member of the Archdiocesan Board of Education, the Navy League, United Way Coordinator for the Dental Program, and the NRA. Dentist, Navy Captain and Rotary President Edward G. Bednar passed away March 21, 2009 at the age of 76. He is buried at Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.
