Charles Dickgiesser

Charles Jacob Dickgiesser was a charter member of the Derby‐Shelton Rotary Club when it was  admitted on May 24, 1927 as a member of Rotary International, was elected as its first Treasurer and  served as the third President of the Club in 1929‐1930.  He was born in Derby on May 22, 1883, son of  Joseph and Amalia Haeusler Dickgiesser.  Charles was married to Etta Sherwood Allen.  His earlier occupations were listed as clerk in a tin store, clerk for the Birmingham Hotel of which his  mother was shown as proprietor and then later as a master plumber.  

In 1906, he established the  Charles J. Dickgiesser Company and merged his business with the William Haussler & Company, a  plumbing business.  The company advertised its self as a “tinning and heating” at that time and then  later as a “sheet metal” company. The Charles J. Dickgiesser Company, located on Roosevelt Avenue in Derby, is a family owned and operated business specializing in the manufacture of custom machinery, metal fabrications, weldments and machined parts.
