Arthur Miller Reed

Arthur Miller Reed served as President of the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club during Rotary year 1947-1948. He was born January 26, 1902 in the town of Auburn in Cayuga County, New York the son of William J. and Mary Amelia Cock Reed. He was married to Edna Ryaen. He began his career in department store management with Howland & Hughes Company in Waterbury in the early 1930s. In 1939 he came to Derby as general manager of Howard & Barber Department Store located at 298-270 Main Street. 

He was elected President and Treasurer in 1955 when Miss Barber decided to be relieved of those duties and remained in that position until the store closed in the 1960s. He died in New Haven on January 27, 1979 at the age of 74
