At the July 13 th meeting of the Rotary Club Bridgenorth Ennismore Lakefield (BEL), now Past President Tony Davidson officially passed the “gavel” to incoming President Nicole Mascherin, to begin the 2020-2021 Rotary year. Due to Covid 19, the meeting was virtual and the official passing of the gavel by video, pre – recorded respecting physical distancing.

It was a time of celebration as the club reviewed the successes of the 2019 - 2020 Rotary year and outlined goals for the coming year. “Despite the changes in how we did business this year”, said Past
President Tony, “the club continued to provide service to the community. This is thanks to the dedication and commitment of every member.”

The BEL Club built bat houses with children at the Shamrock Festival, supported local families with the gift of Christmas, supported schools and the community with free public skating and have continued to maintain Rotary Park and the BEL Rotary Bridgenorth Trail. On the international front, BEL Rotary continues to maintain and operate the Rotary School of Cambodia and has also been a significant supporter of worldwide polio eradication. It was announced at the meeting that Nigeria will be declared polio free this August!

“Although Covid – 19 meant a change in plans, in true style the club adapted and has continued to support the community through the purchase of hand sanitizer and making of masks, and the provision
of meals and treats for our front line workers and most vulnerable community members “, said Davidson.

The Rotary International theme for the 2020-21 year is “Rotary Opens Opportunities”. Newly Inducted President Nicole challenged members to continue to look for and act on those opportunities. Members
reflected on the friendships and opportunities for service and travel that Rotary has afforded them. President Nicole is well situated to move the club forward and has set the course for the year to ensure
the club continues to provide service and support to the community. Her enthusiasm and passion for Rotary are contagious.

At this time the club extends a huge thank you to all of the community partners, sponsors and supporters, who help to make this service possible. It is a difficult time and your support continues to
make a difference locally and across the globe.
