For many of us, Thanksgiving is a time of autumn colours, the beauty of nature and gatherings with family and friends over dinner complete with roasted turkey, pumpkin pie and all the trimmings.  With food costs soaring and families experiencing economic loss and uncertainty celebrations such as this are elusive.  Food insecurity touches many families, and1 in 3 who access food banks are children.

BEL Rotarians with the support of John Le Quang owner of John’s Independent Grocer in Bridgenorth, brought Thanksgiving to some of our local residents.  Rotarians purchased, packaged and delivered all of the makings for a turkey dinner, treats and other staples to those experiencing challenging times.  “It was overwhelming to see the reaction of the families.  One dad couldn’t express his gratitude enough when we delivered his hamper”, said shopper Anita Lamb.  “It really brought home how much we have to be thankful for”.

It is thanks to the generosity of our community that the BEL Rotary Club is able to take on projects such as this.  John’s Independent grocer in Bridgenorth is a valued partner.  He donated the turkeys and shopped for one of our families..  As always, thank you to Terry McQuitty and the Lakefield Herald for promoting the work of BEL Rotary.  You make a difference!!
