BEL Rotary Brings Christmas to Local Families

For some families in our community the joy that many of us associate with the Christmas season is tarnished by financial demands and stretched budgets at this busy time of year. According to the Social Planning Council, almost 14% of the city and county’s combined population lives below the poverty level.  Families with modest incomes have difficult decisions to make at this time of year: do they buy presents for their children or do they put food on the table?

BEL Rotary members joined forces and adopted four local families.  With help from the local schools, they were able to purchase toys and clothing specific to the children’s interests and sizes.  Spirit was high when members shared their purchases at the BEL meeting Monday night.  The purchases will be delivered to the schools in time for the holiday.
