Divine Hand Orphanage update and our goal for 2018
January 20,2018
The Rotary Club of Westshore is committed to ensuring that the Divine Hand Orphanage is completely solvent and self sufficient by the end of 2019.
To achieve this tangible goal the Rotary club and the team of volunteers who have made over 15 trips to Haiti since the earthquake are looking for 160 donors to donate $25.00 a month for 24 months. These tax deductible donations can be made each month or a one time donation of $600.00.
Over the past 3 years the orphanage director Doris Abraham has embraced the philosophical approach of being self sufficient and has with the help of Rotary established 3 profitable businesses at the orphanage including egg laying production, potable water distribution site, and most recently a bread and bakery. The children all help with the projects, learning life skills, having additional sources of protein and selling the products to the local community to help offset the overhead of locking after 52 children.
On April 17 of this year another team of volunteers will visit Doris and our children, and help her with a number of building improvements to the orphanage, along with helping her with additional revenue producing projects so that she can realize her goal of being self sufficient.
If you you would like to donate or would simply like to know more information about this project please do not hesitate to contact Bob Beckett at
To make a donation, or  participate in the $25.00 a month pledge program, simply deposit on line, or make a cheque out to the Westshore Sunrise Rotary Foundation and address it to 936 Loch Glen Place, Victoria, or drop it off at Glenwood Meats 1245 Parkdale Rd., in Langford.
Thank you for your interest and support of Doris and her kids.
