Pictured to the far left is Andrea Keenan of Vancouver Island Paddlers and Linda Oprica, Community Service Chair.  Vancouver Island Paddlers started in Victoria in 2012.  It now has a membership of 250 with the bulk of members in Victoria but Vancouver Island Paddlers North is located right here in Cumberland on Comox Lake with members increasing every year.
What Vancouver Island Paddlers do:

*Promote paddle sports by creating fun for individuals and corporate groups to try dragon boating, such as "Learn to dragon boat" sessions, kids camps and corporate team building programs.
*Provide access to international caliber racing equipment for members.  On Comox Lake this includes a 20 person BuK dragon boat and a 10 person Champion dragon boat.
*Teach local paddlers how to improve their skills through specialized clinics offered across Vancouver Island and beyond.
*Train and develop coaches and sterns for recreational & competitive teams across Vancouver Island.  Almost all Comox Valley & Victoria area teams have been coached by, or have a coach trained by VIP coaches.
*Cultivate competitive paddling programs that seek to develop paddlers and teams for highest levels of international dragon boat competition.
