At the regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Cumberland Centennial on 25 June, President Kim Sleno presented Bent Harder with a cheque for $2000 to be used on a mission of ROTAPLAST.  ROTAPLAST (ROTary PLASTic surgery) was begun as an international project by the Rotary Club of San Francisco.  ROTAPLAST conducts  missions of medical professionals (plastic surgeons, anesthetists, dental surgeons and nurses) and Rotarian volunteers to countries to provide corrective surgery to children with cleft palates and cleft lips.  Bent Harder, a member of the Rotary Club of Courtenay, is fondly known as “Mr. ROTAPLAST” has been on seven missions to the Philippines, China and Venezuela.  Rotarians who volunteer for these missions pay all their own travel and accommodation expenses.  The volunteer medical professionals receive no fee for their skills but their expenses are paid.  Funds are used primarily for medications and medical supplies.  The Rotary Club of Cumberland Centennial is a strong supporter of ROTAPLAST http://www.rotaplastcanada.com/
