At the regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Cumberland Centennial on 3 September, Deb Nolan presented a cheque for $1000 to Peggy Carswell the founder of Fertile Ground.  Carswell has been working for a number of years helping small tea farmers in Assam move away from chemical fertilizers and other unfriendly chemicals by making and using compost to produce organic teas and help the soil and environment recover from decades of use of chemicals.  Carswell will be travelling to Assam this fall to participate in a conference that will include representatives from the United Nations and other international groups interested in the practices of the tea farmers in Assam.
