The speaker was Ellie Krug, member of the City of Lakes club and president of Human Inspiration Works. Ellie began her talk with reflections on being viewed as “other” as a transgender woman. She defined prejudice, discrimination, race, racism, white fragility, and other terms used in the conversation on racial inequities. She reviewed federal and state poverty guidelines and data on disparities in education and employment in Minnesota. She discussed some of the root causes of these disparities and approaches to addressing them.
