Developing Haiti with Sustainable Clean Water and Sanitation

Haiti is one of the most underdeveloped countries in the world, with nearly 11 million people living on land one-eighth the size of Minnesota. Half the people in rural Haiti have no access to potable water, and even more have no type of improved sanitation. Haiti Outreach develops the water and sanitation infrastructure to be sustainably maintained by the people of Haiti. Haiti Outreach has recently partnered with Rotary International on HANWASH, a project to develop a strategy for clean water and improved sanitation in Haiti by 2030.

Dale Snyder first became involved with Haiti in 1990, co-founding a non-profit organization that was reorganized as Haiti Outreach in 1997. As the organization grew, he was hired first as a part-time executive director in 2002 and went full-time in 2005. He will speak about the accomplishments of Haiti Outreach and this very significant Rotary initiative for Haiti. A former business owner, Dale has an MBA from the University of MN and manages the fundraising, finances and administration of Haiti Outreach, which currently has over 50 employees, all but 4 of which are Haitian citizens. He has been to Haiti well over 60 times, also leads groups there, and has been a member of the Minneapolis Uptown Rotary Club since 2005.
