 President Hu Beaver called the meeting to order at 12:15pm. The meeting was held at the Kwataqnuk Resort. Steve Bauer led us in song. Rob Turner gave the invocation.
Announcements are as follows:
 
October is Rotary membership month.
 
 “Happy bucket”: Hu, Wayne, Phil, Dave Overcast, Jens, Ray, Gayle and Jim Oates. Many said farewell as they head south and thanked fellow Rotarians for their fellowship.
 
 Phil Barney won the drawing and gave the money to the food pantry.
 
Visiting Rotarians: Phil Barney and James Hallensteiner, the longest active Rotarian at his home club in Chicago. He is also active in the Kalispell club and is a board member of the Flathead Lakers.
 
Guests: Ray Wooldridge’s guest was Roger Smith.
 
  The program this week was introduced by Jeff Tuttle. He introduced the Flathead Lakers new Executive Director Kate Sheridan. Kate gave background on herself; saying she was a Rotary Youth Exchange student between 2003-2004 to Portugal. She is also an avid open water swimmer. She mentioned she and a group of open water swimmers swam 77 miles in Flathead Lake in July. She became executive director in August. Kate said the Flathead Lakers three pillars are education, stewardship and advocacy. She thanked Polson Rotary for helping fund a portion of citizen science education programs. She said Science on Tap is held the first Tuesday of each month at Flathead Brewing Company in Bigfork. Kate mentioned the Flathead Lakers support public policies that ensure water quality, specifically Oil Safe Flathead, septic leachate and prevention of aquatic invasive species. She said the group has a staff member, Constanza von der Pahlen, who works on stewardship issues including the River to Lake Initiative that focuses on 5500 protected acres north of Flathead Lake, riparian areas and site visits with landowners.
She said the Lakers partner with CSKT, the Flathead Lake Biological Station, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and other state and local entities. She invited everyone to learn more about the Flathead Lakers at a Bigfork Chamber of Commerce Sundowner, Thursday, October 10th at the Flathead Lake Biological Station at Yellowbay. She said the next Science on Tap will be Tuesday, November 5, 2019 She told of 2020 events including the Lakeside 5k run and Poker Paddle.. She said you can find more about the Flathead Lakers on Facebook and Instagram and at the website, www.flatheadlakers.org.
 
The next Polson Rotary meeting will be Tuesday, October 15 at 12:15pm at the Kwataqnuk Resort.
The program is birthday talks.
