The meeting of January 31st was light in attendance with only 15 gathered together.  Brooke presented a short slide presentation from our exchange student Ianna in Brasil (sc).  She is a having a wonderful time and wants to stay for another year!   She is starting to get the hang of Portuguese even though her language experience was Spanish.  She also has discovered World Cup soccer is taken very seriously.

 

The Happy bucket had 3 participants, Cuinn won the raffle, and Larry Peltz's 

Justice revolved around Rotary questions.

 

Toni Altenburg, recently named Aquatic Director at the pool, spoke from her background as a health and wellness advocate.  She praised the community infrastructure of the area with exercise paths, athletic fields, hiking areas, the pool and soon to be-ice arena all leading to opportunities for physical activity.  Being active leads to healthy life styles which can be a potent anti-depressant, boosting emotional health as well as physical.  She recommended finding a group to bond with to help achieve goals.  And any physical activity can be beneficial.

 

She mentioned Mission Valley Aquatics has exercise classes, both aqua and land along with the usual swimming opportunities.  The pool, soon to celebrate its 10th anniversary,  currently has a fund-raising campaign with a goal of $ 1 million dollars to insure operations for the next 10 years and has reached 65% of the goal.

 

PS: The Brewfest planning committee met on February 6 with 9 in attendance.  August 12th will be the date in conjunction with the Car show & Sandpiper Art Festival.   Prizes are being lined up along with breweries (4-6), a band or DJ, kids events, etc.
