Ramblings is back! We are re-committing our efforts to keep members informed about the Club. The January 7th evening social was held on the main level of Bunkers with a dozen participating including some for their first time. The January 14th meeting had 19 in attendance including new member Carmine Mowbray for her first regular meeting and proposed member Dave Michie. Dave is the City attorney. President Laura announced the progress of the new high school Rotary Interact Club spearheaded by our former exchange student Ianna. They have 15 to 20 interested teens involved and have had two service projects- at Community Thanksgiving peeling potatoes and Christmas cookies at the Rehabilation Center. We reimbursed the expenses of $38.63! The program was Fr1ends of Children whose goal is provide long haul support for foster and at-risk children in health, school, and family situations. The organization has offices in other Montana cities, but is focused on Flathead Nation families here. The January 21st meeting with 17 in attendance also involved a organization helping kids. Families First's goal is to strengthen families through education, connection, play and partnership. Dream Bigger, Mending Broken Hearts, and Circle of Security are examples of the programs. The January 28th meeting had 18 in attendance with Duane and Julie Hille, scout-masters giving an update of the Scouts of America Melita Island camp. The Montana council has invested over $4.5 million in improvements including showers, electricity, campsites, program areas, and play toys (plus a donated catamaran worth $1.4 million). About 1,000 Scouts visit in the summer, spending a week at camp. Rotary has been invited out this summer! That will be a well attended social. |
