President Hu Beaver called the meeting to order at 12:15pm. The meeting was held at the KwaTaqNuk Resort. Ray Wooldridge and Toni Young Whealon led us in song, Eileen Kane gave the invocation and Rob Turner served justice. Rob Hanson won the drawing and donated it to the Martini Fund. Books by the speaker were won by Sheriane and Toni.

Announcements are as follows: Festival of Youth report: We are almost there! T-shirts and hats are available for purchase. Larry told us that members still have outstanding tickets to sell and turn in. Larry emailed his report to members.  Volunteers are needed Friday afternoon to pick up things from Payne West at 4:00pm. Set-up for Saturday is at 6:30. Ticket sellers are needed at the Courthouse Saturday morning before the Chili cookoff. Help is needed to hang banners and signs. There are 14 teams cooking on Saturday.

Don’t forget the second Tuesday Social Hour at Fiesta En Jalisco at 5:30. Invite any non-Rotarian as well as members.

Hands across the border is coming up in September, please consider signing up.

We tentatively have the Shadow reserved for September 10.

August is membership month and it is everyone's responsibility to recruit new members. August birthdays are Ken Cook, Dan Barz, Dave Overcast, Steve Bauer, Roxanne Duckworth, and Jake Baumann. Wish them all a happy birthday when you see them. Visiting Rotarians were Phil Barney and Sherianne, guests of Ron Bone were Jon Nores and his wife Patty, and Gary Fansher (sp).

Lt. Jon Nores, retired California Department of Fish and Game was our speaker. Jon talked about his harrowing experiences combating the marijuana drug cartels on America’s public lands. He had photos of the wastelands the drug runners have made of streams and rivers in California – killing off fish and wildlife - from the diversions they have made of water to irrigate their fields of marijuana in the mountains and hillsides in remote areas. Jon started his career in 1992 and retired in 2018 after co-developing and leading the state agency’s elite tactical unit the Marijuana Enforcement Team and developed the first sniper unit aimed at combating the most environmentally damaging criminals working within California and impacting the nation. Throughout his career he was a field officer for new cadets, conducted statewide, national and international training in firearms, defensive tactics, high risk warrant and arrest tactics as well as basic and advanced sniper training programs with special operations personnel from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office. Jon was awarded the Governor’s Medal of Valor for lifesaving and leadership efforts in 2007 and led agency dignitary protection details with the US Secret Service. Pretty amazing to think we need this type of defense from drug runners.
