President Hu Beaver called the meeting to order at 12:15pm. The meeting was held at the Kwataqnuk Resort. Sharon Fulton led us in song. Steve Bauer gave the invocation.
Announcements are as follows:
Polson Rotarians are encouraged to make a donation to the local food bank. Town Pump will match the club donations, So far, the club has collected $450 toward the $ 500 club match. Two anonymous donors have each pledged an additional $500 each for matching.
David Fansher reported the dictionary project is almost completed with delivery to most of the 3rd graders in Lake County.
Using the pool this week, the 3rd graders at Linderman were also vociferous in thanking Rotary for providing the swim passes as part of the Signature Project.

Hu told Polson Rotarians that Merle Parise had passed.
Rob Turner introduced our guest speakers, Salish Kootenai Foundation Executive Director Karen Delaney and SKC Foundation Development Director Ellie Bundy McLeod from the Salish Kootenai College Foundation. Karen spoke first about Salish Kootenai College. She said SKC is one of 1037 tribal colleges in the United States. Karen mentioned SKC was chartered in 1977 offering post-secondary education to Native American and non-native American students. The current enrollment of 686 students represent 55 tribes and 19 states according to Karen. She said student demographics show 75% of students are Native American and 25% non-native, 65% female and 37% male. Karen said the curriculum consists of 17 Associate and 22 Bachelor programs, 12 certificate of completion programs and 8 work force living programs. She said SKC is the only tribal college to offer a 4-year degree in hydrology and has a tremendous fine arts program. She said the campus itself consists of 25 buildings, a physical fitness facility and a 9-hole golf course on 130 acres.
Ellie spoke next about the SKC Foundation, with a total endowment is $14 million. Ellie said the foundation has awarded over $800,000 in student scholarships. The main fundraisers are the annual August golf tournament and Art Auction and Gala offered every two years in May. She mentioned the President’s Alumni Dinner being held on November 14, 2019 and told of the “Tours and Tidbits” summer and fall series where different college departments host the public informing participants about what the department has to offer. She mentioned the SKC Foundation mission statement, “ Grounded in Tradition, Charging Into the Future.”
The next Polson Rotary meeting will be Tuesday, November 12 at 12:15pm at the Kwataqnuk Resort.
