Join us at the Comfort Inn on June 4 from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm to assemble bikes for the Essential Eats program.  We could use your help as our goal is to set up 200 bikes in a day.  Please bring bike assembly tools (wrenches, etc.).  We will provide food and drink for volunteers.

Essential Eats Distributors provides rural and indigenous populations in Montana with things that would be tough to get in these remote areas. They are at it again with there bike program but this year with some new recipients.

Essential Eats Distributors has been doing its bikes for the Blackfeet drive for three years, bringing bikes to extremely rural indigenous populations. Last year the program expanded to include the Crow people and the town of Lodge Grass in Eastern Montana.

INSPIRATION

Fellowship provide opportunities for Rotarians to make lasting friendships outside their own Club, District or country. Fellowships contribute to the advancement of world understanding and peace. Also, Fellowships serve as an incentive for attracting new members to Rotary and retaining our existing members.

SALVATION ARMY IN UKRAINE UPDATE

The Salvation Army, an international movement, has a long-standing presence in Ukraine and neighboring countries. Because we are already part of the communities in which we serve, we are on the ground and ready to respond and serve immediately in times of need such as this.

As the Ukrainian conflict moves into another month, The Salvation Army strives to embrace all people and treat them with dignity believing no one should be defined by their challenges or circumstances. In doing so, programs and facilities have pivoted to provide food, clothes, blankets, and emotional and spiritual care to refugees across the countries of Eastern Europe. As of April 6, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reports 7.1 million Ukrainians are internally displaced and 4.3 million refugees have fled the country. UNICEF reports 2.5 million of the internally displaced are children.

Wednesday we will be giving the Salvation Army a check from our Happy Bucks collection over the past month.   Captain Ryan Boyd of the Salvation Army in Missoula will be sharing about the Ukraine efforts done by the Salvation army to date.   Ryan and her husband Josh are being relocated to Denver, Colorado in 30 days.  Ryan has served our club as the club secretary for several years and she is going to be greatly missed by all.  Missoula has been a great home for her and her children for the last 5 years and we have been fortunate to have been able to do many service projects with that organization.  Thanks Ryan for stepping in last minute to be our speaker this week.

SUNRISE ROTARY PRIDE PARADE

Sunrise Rotary invites Missoula members to join in PRIDE parade

Betsy Mulligan-Dague, past president of the Rotary Club of Missoula Sunrise Club, is organizing a Rotary contingent to participate in the annual PRIDE parade on Saturday, June 4. The parade begins downtown Missoula at 1:30 pm at the XXX’s sculpture at the north end of town.

Several members of the Sunrise club will walk in the parade, according to Betsy, and members in the Missoula club who might want to join them should contact Betsy at bmdague@gmail.com or call (406) 273-6171 for logistics and meet-up information.

“We are doing this to: (1) promote Rotary; (2) answer the RI call to honor diversity; and (3) support a population of youth who are very much at risk in our world,” said Betsy.

Message from the President

Fellowship Opportunities

As President of the club, I really enjoy these fellowship weeks; It's like having a week off from the usual Prez duties & I still get to enjoy the company of great people.  I'm always glad to see the great turnout we have at our lunch fellowships at MCC & our Evening fellowships. These unofficial meetings give us an opportunity to get to know each other, more than we get to do at our regular meetings.  I hope to see you all at one or both of these great events.

Thanks,

Dean Fiedler, President 2021-22
