Susan Broshu-Hoshield organized our club's Adopt-a-Highway pickup on 9/21. We filled over 8 bags of trash in 2 hours.

Our first meeting on 9/25 at the Riverside was a hit--pizza, salad, and a fountain drink for $10 plus Cindy Neahr's brownies. Leah Ashley, Executive Director, Bay Bluffs, was our dynamic speaker.

Mark Your Calendars
On Wednesday, October 30 at 11:45 AM, we will meet at The Riverside Bar and Grill (behind the Alanson Post Office). Pat Ryde, President, will review our first board meeting, and announce alternative meeting dates for the balance of the year: November 20 and December 18. We have invited a speaker from The Salvation Army for the November meeting. Our December meeting will be a Giving Luncheon where our first charitable donations will be provided to local organizations. Pat will also have a signup sheet for Salvation Army bellringers for the Alanson Holiday Open House on December 13.
Also, we will have break-out discussions to provide time for our newly-formed club committees to get organized and discuss next steps. At the last meeting, we formed seven committees to steer the club's activities: Fellowship and Social Events, Speaker Programs, New Members, Charitable Fundraising Events, Charitable Giving, Volunteer Programs, Public Image and Marketing & Communications.
The next board meeting will be on Wednesday, December 4 at 8:00 AM at Crooked River Lodge (all members are invited). Please note that our club's charter will be presented at our meeting on January 29 by Brianna Scott, our Rotary District Governor. This meeting will be a celebration of our two-year effort to found a new club, so bring your partners, spouses and prospective members!
Your club dues should be sent to Rotary Club of Inland Waterway, PO Box 414, Alanson, MI 49706, either pay in $250 in full to cover the Rotary year ending June 30, 2025, or $125 by November 15 and $125 by January 15, 2025.
Volunteer Programs
Denise Evans, Samantha Fairbairn, Melissa Krussel, Leah Pierce, and Becky Sevener provided desserts for the "Eat for Heat" dinner on Friday, October 11. The fundraiser was a great success with 220 in attendance, and an estimated $10,000 raised. Way to go, Becky Fettig!
Please bring items like these to our next meeting on October 30 to support Manna's Holiday Food Drive. On a separate note, we will have "get well" cards for two of our members who have scheduled surgeries.
