Nearly half our club members could be spotted at the Labor Day "World's Shortest Swing Bridge." Lots of fun and great music provided by the Rivertown Jazz Band.
Even after the Quarter Mile Challenge has ended, Chris, Riverside manager/owner, keeps the contributions to our club rolling in.
Mark Your Calendars
Based your feedback from a recent club member survey, we are going to spread our lunch money around town, and meet at the Riverside in SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER. Chris, the manager/owner, has been informed of our rowdy members, and still thinks he would like to have us as his guests. SO PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS TO MEET AT THE RIVERSIDE ON WEDNESDAY AT 11:45 AM ON SEPTEMBER 25 AND OCTOBER 30, 6253 RIVER STREET, ALANSON. (Note: Chris does not object if anyone wants to bring cookies or other deserts to pass).
In addition to our speaker (see below), President Pat Ryde will pass around sign up sheets for the club committees (where most of the work of a Rotary Club gets done). Please come prepared show your interest in the following committees: Social, Membership, Charitable Giving, Public Image, Fundraising Events, Speaker Programs, Volunteer Programs. (You can sign up for more than one.)
Speaking of calendars, our club's 2025 Rotary Raffle Calendar sales are in full swing. Inland Waterway receives $10 for each $25 calendar sold, so please consider either buying or selling at least two calendars. So far, our calendar sales people include Randy and Denise Evans, Connie Fairbairn, Betsy Lawrence, Pat Ryde, and Leah Pierce.
Note: On October 1, each club member will receive an invoice for Rotary dues for the 2024/25 fiscal year running from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. The $250 annual dues may be paid in full or in two equal payment of $125 (second payment due on January 1, 2025).

Volunteer Opportunities
Susan Brochu-Hoshield picked up our bags and vests for next week's Adopt-A-Highway pickup. Please meet at the intersection of M-68 and Miller Road at 9 AM on Saturday, September 21. The work should take less than two hours.
Our next Habitat for Humanity work bee will take place from 5-8 PM on Wednesday, September 25. If you intend to become a new volunteer, please call Randy Evans at 231-622-3578 for a consent form.
Please join the crew at the next Manna Food Project volunteer session at 10 AM on Monday, October 14. If you would like to register as a Manna volunteer, go to the Manna website, mannafoodproject.org and select "Volunteer" under the pull down menu. Select "Volunteer Login" and "I would like to volunteer."
Ronon's Place, 8119 M-68, will organize "EAT FOR HEAT," a community fundraiser to help those struggling to keep warm during the winter months. Our club has agreed to provide five desserts for the dinner on October 11 from 4-8 PM. Denise Evans and Samantha Fairbairn have offered to supply a desert, so we need three more volunteers. Lisa Ashley, our September speaker
Lisa Ashley will be our speaker on September 25. Lisa is Administrator, Bay Bluffs, Emmet County Medical Care Facility, the new hospice wing at Bay Bluffs in Harbor Spring. Bay Bluffs is a community-based, long-term care facility with over five decades of service to the region, including care for short-term rehabilitation. Lisa is an experienced health care professional with a Master's Degree in Social Work from Western Michigan University, and a BA in Psychology from Hope College.
