Spectacular weather, the spirit of adventure associated with riding a multi-speed bicycle through 2 states and 2 countries, the camaraderie developed from riding with 46 other bikers, the scenic beauty along the way, and the good food – all of these superlatives and many more contributed to a very successful WACANID Bike Ride that benefitted participating Rotary clubs along the International Selkirk Loop from September 20th through September 24th.

Fifty-three riders registered for the event, but because of extenuating circumstances with 6 of those riders, 47 ultimately ended up on the road.  As anticipated, registration was down slightly from last year; however, start up costs and other refinements in allocating expenses made this year’s ride more profitable for the rotary clubs who participated.  Six riders returned from last year and others came from across the country including Pennsylvania, Maryland as well as Vancouver and Calgary, Canada.

The riders were appreciative of the Bonners Ferry Rotarians on hand who provided the welcome and the hot food.  One participant from Nelson, BC was overheard in his comments that “Mark [Mark McInnes, Chairman of the 2011 WACANID Ride] is quite passionate about the job he agreed to do and he certainly has done a fine job.”
