Carol Graham - Speaker on October 26th
Carol Graham was our guest speaker for October 26th. Carol is the Executive Director of the International Selkirk Loop with corporate offices located in Bonners Ferry. The Selkirk Loop is an All-American Road National Scenic Byway. There are 42 scenic byways in the United States and the Selkirk Loop is one of only 27 that have been designated with All-American status. The 280-mile driving route encircles the Selkirk Mountain Range through two states and two countries. Three hundred eighty member businesses are located on or in close proximity to the Selkirk Loop, which generates approximately $490 of revenue per person per day.

Carol indicated that easily accessible day hikes and waterfall strolls are available for people who spend time on or near the Loop.  Maps of the hikes and strolls are available at visitors' centers in North Idaho, Eastern Washington and the East Kootenays in British Columbia, Canada. Sunset Magazine, AAA and Rand McNally have referenced the Selkirk Loop in its publications and have named the Loop as one of the top 10 scenic drives in the Rockies.

Carol concluded her excellent presentation with a short 7-minute video that explained in greater detail the specifics of the Byway with an opportunity to support the organization for $72 per year. Membership provides listings in the travel guide and on the Loop's website, as well as a photo and links to the business's website.

As you will recall, the International Selkirk Loop was the site of the 2nd annual WaCanId Bike Ride held on September 21-25 in which nearly 100 riders took part. Riders came through Bonners Ferry on Tuesday, 9/21 and again on Friday and Saturday, 9/24 and 9/25.
