Debbie Pauls, AmeriCorps VISTA leader at Valley View Elementary, was presented with a check for $1,000 .00 from the Bonners Ferry Rotary Club as an attempt to fight illiteracy in Boundary County. Debbie stated that a grant was awarded to Valley View/AmeriCorps VISTA through the Idaho Department of Education for three authors to visit the school and offer assemblies, presentations and writers’ workshops to stimulate, encourage, and teach the students the joys of reading and writing. The first author visited the school on January 15th.  One teacher commented, “My students and I learned the importance of having multiple resources when doing research.  We all felt like we could be non-fiction authors.  The students loved the entire presentation.  Kelly was wonderful!  Teachers and students would enjoy having her visit our school again.”  Marciavee Cossette, Rotary member, was also able to attend the presentation and is enjoying the author’s book she purchased at the event.

Upcoming visits are scheduled for February 18th and February 25th.  Individuals who may want to attend these presentations should call Debbie Pauls at Valley View, 208-267-5519 or 208-267-7421 for time and location.
