Offsite Visit to the Boundary County Senior Hospitality Center

Bonners Ferry, Idaho

The Bonners Ferry Rotary Board of Directors recently approved a financial grant to the Boundary County Senior Hospitality Center to recover the single pool table used at the Center.  The policy of the Board is to invite the recipient to a future club meeting to discuss the organization and how the grant will be used.  In this case, the club was invited to a lunch meeting at the Senior Center.  Unfortunately, we had no program.

The Senior Hospitality Center is a 501 C 3 non-profit organization founded on April 25, 1974 under the laws of the State of Idaho.  They provide the following programs:

(1)     Congregate Meals 4 days/week (to meet the complex nutritional needs of older persons)

(2)     Home Delivered Meals served 4 days/week (delivered to those persons who are homebound by reasons of illness, incapacitating disabilities or otherwise isolated – the client may receive 7 meals by accepting frozen meals)

(3)     Transportation (utilizing both a 14-passenger bus with wheelchair lift or a 6-passenger van to transport people who have no other means of transportation)

(4)     Equal Opportunity Senior and/or Disabled Housing (at 3 locations within the County)

In addition to meals and hospitality services, the Center also provides diagnostic and therapeutic services directly at the Center including blood pressure checks, foot care, hearing aid assistance, VA representation, legal aid assistance, exercise, senior companion program (Program Coordinator is located in Sandpoint) and AARP information.

Suggested donations are always welcome because subsidies from the government are never adequate to provide the programs and services needed for the community.
