Terry's Polio Eradication Update
For The Week ending 2/07/26
Dear Polio Eradication Warriors,
Three new Wild Polio paralysis cases reported this week. We are now 7 weeks since the most recent report of a child being paralyzed by the Wild Polio Virus in Pakistan.
Ethiopia’s national polio vaccination campaign marked a major milestone, reaching more than 26 million children across all regions with lifesaving polio vaccines. To strengthen population immunity against the virus, the campaign co-administered bivalent oral polio vaccine (bOPV) with the novel oral polio vaccine type 2 (nOPV2). This vaccination strategy will help close immunity gaps and accelerate progress towards ending variant polio transmission across the country.

The Final Two Polio Endemic Countries
Pakistan No new Wild Polio cases reported this week. No Wild Polio cases reported in 2026. Thirty-one Wild Polio cases reported in 2025. Seventy-four Wild Polio cases reported in 2024.Six Wild Polio Cases reported in 2023. The most recent case had an onset of paralysis on 12/14/25. Four new WPV1 Environmental Samples and no cVDPV2 Positive Environmental Samples were reported this week in Pakistan.
Afghanistan Three new (2025) Wild Polio cases reported this week. No Wild Polio cases reported in 2026. Thirteen Wild Polio cases reported in 2025. Twenty-five Wild Polio cases reported in 2024. Six Wild Polio Cases reported in 2023. The most recent case had an onset of paralysis on 10/24/25. Three WPV1 Environmental Samples and no cVDPV2 Positive Environmental Samples were reported this week in Afghanistan.
