To donate or volunteer to pack, click here.
We are holding an event you should be aware of on April 19, 2017 at the Kings Park High School. - The End Hunger in Kings Park program. We have partnered with Outreach, a non-profit organization, which will help us create an assembly line in our school cafeteria. In this assembly line, we will pack nutritious non-perishable ready to cook meals, which will be provided to local food pantries and soup kitchens, as well as directly to public school students who do not have reliable access to food. If you would like to donate your time, please join us for two hours (half hour of setup, an hour of packing and a half hour of breakdown and cleanup). In that time, you will work at an assembly table that will make about 1,800 meals. That’s 150 meals per volunteer, per hour. The food and materials provided by Outreach come at a cost of $40.00 per volunteer, or $480.00 per assembly table. This works out to approximately 25 cents per nutritious meal distributed to a hungry child! So even if you don’t have the time to join us yourself, please sponsor a volunteer or two, so that the students in Interact may pack as many meals as we can get the workforce for. If you’re in a position to, sponsor an entire table, and for $480.00 you will feed 1,800 hungry Long Islanders. If that’s a bit much, sponsor half a table. Or a quarter. No contribution is too small or too big, as the number of working assembly tables depends on our community’s support. To donate or volunteer to pack, click here. We are working on this project together with the Commack-Kings Park Rotary Club and with help from the Commack High School Interact Club, the East Northport Rotary Club and the Hauppauge Rotary Club. To volunteer, come to the Kings Park High School on April 19th at 2pm. Follow the signs from the main entrance. You won't be able to miss us! Anyone who has the two hours to contribute, please come join us. It's probably the most worthwhile thing you can do with a Saturday morning. Whether or not you have the time to volunteer, please contribute some funds. This is by far the best bang for your charitable giving dollars, with each 25 cents you give providing a nutritious meal to a local food insecure family. Join in. One way or another. It really is worth it! Thank you for all of your support! Thanks again!

The Epidemic of Human Trafficking
Jan. 15, 2019 12:15 p.m.
According to the United Nations, human trafficking generates $32 billion annually, of which $9.5 billion is generated annually in the United States. 300,000 children are at risk of being prostituted in the United States according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The average age of entry into prostitution for a child in the United States is 12 years old. A pimp can make $200,000 per child each year and the average pimp has 4 to 6 girls according to the U.S. Justice Department and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Health and Human Services says fewer than 100 beds are available in the United States for underage victims. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Long Island and New York City are among the top 20 human trafficking jurisdictions in the country. Each tear drop on the map above is a media report of one or more persons, one or more of our neighbors, who has been a victim of trafficking this decade. Long Island Against Trafficking seeks to educate communities, work with legislators, and raise money to help victims of human trafficking live fully restored lives. Long Island Against Trafficking was founded when a group of individuals were awakened to the realities of human sex trafficking while attending a lecture. The words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter" resonated in our hearts and minds. We were compelled to join in the fight for those sex trafficked on Long Island and abroad. Long Island Against Trafficking was established to raise funds for those victimized and raise public awareness of this modern-day form of slavery. We accomplish this by speaking at public and private events as well as lobbying at the local, state, and federal levels. We plan and host fundraisers to aid in financially supporting victims. We also partner with other human rights organizations on a local, national and international level to create a powerful collective voice. Come listed to Susan Lingenfelter, Board Member of Long Island Against Trafficking provide an update on the state of human trafficking on Long Island. For futher info, visit www.endlitraffick.net |

Mar. 19, 2019 12:15 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Our Mission: It is the intent of our group to acquire, restore and sustainably operate in perpetuity the farm… in keeping with Ms. Carll’s wishes. Any or all activities will be either educational, agricultural, “green” or focused on good health and nature. The house would eventually be fully restored to a period museum. Our first tasks would be to stabilize the house and clean up the grounds…with community participation and Scout troops… to ready the land for production. First round grant applications would commence. After stabilizing, we would essentially “mothball” the house after removing sensitive items such as papers and textiles to the schoolhouse, which would serve as our offices and restoration/archiving studio for the short term. Eventually the school house would become a community center serving a multitude of uses. The focus will then be mainly on agricultural production while courting corporations to sponsor a room in the farmhouse for restoration. About Cynthia B. Clark: A fourth-generation Huntingtonian and historic preservation buff, Ms. Clark first became an advocate of the farm in October of 2011. Shortly afterward she learned her Grandmother had been a friend of Ms. Carll’s. She is a restoration specialist primarily in textiles and leather and has done work for Christie’s Fine Art Services, and both The Neue Gallery and Fraunces Tavern Museums in NYC. It is free to attend. Lunch is available for $16.
