What Is Rotary?
What Is Rotary?

Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

There are 34,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries. Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.

What Do Rotary Clubs Do?

Rotary projects address many of today’s challenges including illiteracy, disease, hunger, poverty, lack of clean water, and environmental concerns, while encouraging high ethical standards in all vocations.

Rotary is a grassroots organization; its service efforts are carried out at the club level in their local communities and abroad. Rotary also supports programs providing vocational guidance, senior citizen assistance and youth leadership development.

What Does Rotary Offer Me?

Belonging to a Rotary club gives men and women an enjoyable and organized way to make a contribution to society.   As a member, you'll get a chance to become more involved in your community and to provide aid to other parts of the world through the opportunities that your Rotary club and Rotary International offer.

Rotary members meet weekly to plan club, community and international service activities.  By using their skills and expertise globally, members also enhance their professional network, career and business development and cross-cultural understanding.  Membership in a Rotary club also offers many other opportunities for:

  • Personal Growth and Leadership Development
  • Community and World Citizenship
  • Continuing Education
  • Improving Vocational, Public Speaking and Social Skills
  • Travel Assistance — There are Rotarians everywhere
  • New Friendships With Really Nice People
  • Family Activities
  • Entertainment, Fellowship and Fun
  • Prestige — You’re among prominent community leaders in the oldest and most prestigious service club in the world

How Can I Become A Rotarian?
