Our ZOOM virtual meetings have been a big success.  If you are uncomfortable with being on video,  there is an option to participate with only your voice via telephone.  For those who have not yet attended one of the virtual meetings... Phone a Friend if you need help getting in the meeting or reply to this email.  Using Zoom is so much easier than you think.  Please reach out to Kristen Morse if you need assistance.  She is ready and willing to assist with any tech issues, simply reply to this newsletter.

Babylon Rotary/Ferdinand Gutmann Scholarship Winners have been selected!!!   Thank you to the scholarship selection committee & other members who helped selected the winners of this year's scholarship awards.  Usually this is one of our best attended Rotary Events of the year, and unfortunately we will not be able to all be together in the same room.   The scholarship recipients will be joining us on ZOOM during our next virtual meeting.  Please make an extra effort to attend so we can support the winners and show our appreciation of the scholarship selection committee.  The winners are as follows;

           Babylon High School                      Oscar Berrios

            West Islip High School                   Jake Turcios

            West Babylon High School            MacKenzie Heuer

            North Babylon High School           Yanerif Alvarez

We sent out the application packets to the schools guidance departments in January.  There were many terrific applicants.  Scholarship recipients are selected based on: financial need, community involvement and academics.

Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry Donation -  Over the past few weeks, our club has donated $4000 in monetary & food support to local food pantries and soup kitchens.   Due to COVID-19, we couldn't do our usual Spring Food Buy for the local soup kitchens.  In lieu of our regular trip to Restaurant Depot, we delivered checks and pantry supplies to United Methodist in Babylon, First Presbyterian in Babylon, Our Lady of Lourdes in West Islip, West Islip Church of Christ,  Christ Episcopal Church in Babylon (Nourish Babylon) & St. Joseph's RCC in Babylon.  A HUGE thank you to NEW MEMBER Bonnie Heller, Megan Noble, Jim Kanzler & Kristen Morse for delivering checks and supplies to the food pantries.

Congrats to Rotarian Julia Santo for graduating Hofstra University LAW SCHOOL:     Julia did an amazing job and worked extremely hard. She took no days off and never quit.  Throughout the duration of her studies,  she still found time for to put SERVICE above SELF, always giving more than she received. We are all so proud of you, Julia!

How to Help Fight Covid-19 -    Rotary International is launching an 8hr video training program for people wanting to volunteer to help fight COVID-19.  The training program will certify individuals to work as a TeleHealth Volunteer where you can work from home to provide support to vulnerable individuals and non-urgent medical cases who have been pushed down the priority list at local medical facilities.  Visit Global Impact Group website.

Some Tips from our President:

- Quarantine and segregation might be stressful and upsetting.  It weakens our immune system, so being proactive about remaining in shape becomes even more important.

- Consuming too much media in a crisis is associated with increased levels of stress.

- Wake up every day and remind yourself what you are grateful for.  You can’t be in fear when you are grateful.

- Meditate, even if it is for a minute can help, find a resource to help you meditate.

- Be mindful of your Alcohol and Drug intake, it is easy to slip into bad habits during this time.

- Be sure to do some physical activity every day.
