Meeting of June 13, 2018

From The Top

President Frank opened the meeting with the pledge led by Werner Zumbrunn, and grace by Charlie Spencer. Since we held our Annual Scholarship Luncheon today, there were many guests – parents, teachers, administrators, advisors and friends all visited to help congratulate this year’s scholarship winners. Among them were very special guests Pat Brennan and Pat Fishel.

59th Annual Ferdinand Gutmann Scholarship Awards

Scott Lockwood gave a brief bio of Ferdinand Gutmann, the background of the Babylon Rotary Scholarship Program, and an inspirational tale relating how success is achieved through persistence and hard work.

Scott acknowledged the long and continued support of the Gutmann family, and the generous contributions to the Babylon Rotary Scholarship Program by Carolyn Gutmann and Pat Brennan.

The Babylon Rotary Scholarship Program was founded by Ferdinand Gutmann, a unique Rotarian of great personal and moral courage, who was devoted to the encouragement and advancement of young people, worldwide, goodwill and peace.

Over the past 59 years the Babylon Rotary Club has provided nearly a half-million dollars of college scholarships to deserving high school students. This year, the scholarships are awarded in memory of long-time member and past president of the Babylon Rotary Club, Richard J. Brennan.

Following a welcoming address, Scholarship Program Chairman Marc Horowitz introduced the 2018 Babylon Rotary Scholarship Committee - Gus Fischel, Victoria Lever, Warren Light, Megan Noble, Gail Sullivan, and Werner .Zumbrunn – and the 2018 Babylon Rotary Scholarship winners, each of whom gave a brief statement of their academic plans and career aspirations. It was clear that the Scholarship Committee again chose wisely and well. Congratulations to the 2018 scholarship winners:
