Today’s Program

BRC member and author Gene Hilgreen gave a talk on creative writing. Gene has written four published novels and several short stories.

Gene began with a brief bio, including his career in the IT field, extensive travel, personal experiences, and of life changing events, that inspired him to become a writer.

He outlined the methods he uses to remember and record experiences, locations and thoughts that may find their way into his novels. He then summarized his approach to creative writing through imaginative, vivid narration and character development, with examples of techniques to enhance descriptive sensory perception.

Gene also described how he “spreadsheets” each of his novels and the research he performs, ensuring that all of the details are believable and accurate.

Next Week’s Program

At our next regular meeting on Wednesday, October 3rd, our own Dr. Michael Beck will give another of his stimulating and informative talks – this one titled “The Healing Power of Touch”.

Special Celebration – We were treated to delicious apple pie dessert today in honor of Johnny Appleseed, a pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to a large portion of the country, born on this day in 1774 – thanks Scott and Josie.
