District Governor Wendy Walsh-DeMaria gave a comprehensive outline of the 2017/2018 activities and goals for Rotary Internationa (RI)l and Rotary District 7255 at our regular meeting on Wednesday, September 13th.
Following an introduction by Assistant Governor John DiLiberto, Wendy began by characterizing this year’s RI President, Ian H.S. Risely and the RI theme for 2017/2018, Rotary: Making A Difference. A specific goal of the RI president is to have every Rotary club endeavor to protect and preserve the environment. He asks that all clubs plant a tree in honor of someone or something, and designated in their community as the Rotary tree, symbolizing Rotary’s commitment to the natural environment and growth of the Rotary Ideal.

Wendy elaborated on how Rotarians can get the message to the general public about Rotary’s good works, and how to fashion our “elevator speech” to reflect exactly what we do to help those in our community.

She also addressed RI’s emphasis on diversity, and the importance and rewards of the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, benefits of attending the Rotary Leadership Institute, and the recently revamped, user-friendly District 7255 website.

Wendy concluded with a description of her District Conference. The conference will be held May 3-6, 2018 at a five-star resort that she has visited many times, The Hard Rock Resort & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. This will be a joint conference with Rotary District 7490.
