Once again, our five Rotary Clubs: Passport, Semiahmoo, South Surrey, White Rock, and our Nature Celebrators participated in an event with the Surrey Eagles hockey team, only this year the “Rotary Night” was a “Rotary Afternoon”!
It all took place at the South Surrey Arena, just behind the Rotary Field House. Game time was 3 PM, but there was much to do before then. All the clubs set up tables, displaying our activities and projects, both local and international.
Rotarian Irene Dahl, who was also the lead organizer of the event, sang the national anthems of Canada and the States, District Governor Elect Isabelle Hayer dropped the ceremonial puck, and the game began. However, for many Rotarians, other things were at play. Tables had to be managed, information shared, and tickets for the draw for an Eagles Jersey, signed by all the players and donated by Rotary, had to be distributed.
In the end, we won! The Rotarians, that is.
In sum, it was a good opportunity for us to share with the community what Rotary does in the community and in locations around the world.
On March 12 th , the five clubs in District 5050, Area F got together for our first ever 5-Club Social at the Rotary Field House.
It was such a success that there are rumours it might become an annual event.
Upon entry, Rotarians and guests were given slips of paper with different numbers on them, designating which table we were to join. This ensured that the five clubs socialized together and not separately. At each table was a mixture of old friends and new.
A meal was shared, after which, presidents gave a brief summary of their clubs and their activities. The keynote speech was given by former Mayor of White Rock and Rotarian Wayne Baldwin.
If rumours prove true, perhaps we will see you next year!
