Exciting news as we received formal notification that our application for a District Grant has been approved. A big thank you to District 9620 grants team for believing in us, and to the Rotary Club of Alexandra Headlands for sponsoring this application; also to the RC Kamapala Ssesee Islands as international partner in this project.
Rotarian Moses Kalanzi and his team as Swim Safe Uganda are now preparing to deliver the long awaited training in Water and Fire Safety for first responders in the Lake Victoria district in Uganda in November 2022.
The Swimming Gift Project
Our mission is to ensure every child can swim before they finish Primary School.
The Swimming Gift is a school based project to support underprivileged communities by funding learn to swim programs. We are asking every Rotary Club to sponsor one class of Year 4 students (8/9 year olds) to learn to swim by donating/gifting USD 650 to cover the costs of lessons.
Other Projects
As we settle into our roles within Rotary we have decided that focus needs to be on those projects that can be achieved over the next 12 months.
We are now developing a database to find the strength within our membership, to fulfil the roles needed to carry out more indepth projects. Projects rely on members stepping up and supporting the team, to plan and deliver projects in a professional, efficient and timely fashion.

Rotary at Swim Coaches & Teachers Association SwimCon 22
The annual Swim Australia conference was back this month after 2 years of COVID. The Global Water Safety & DPRC featured with Rotarian Rhiannon Kocmar presenting with Swim Australia CEO & Rotarian Brendon Ward showcasing our journey and charter.
Eve was unable to attend as she was overseas but sent a message of motivation and support to encourage teachers to give back to their community. We were received with great excitement and enthusiasm and look forward to greater engagement with the aquatics community in Australia.

Gail Dimitriadis & Leanne White
Karen-Tui Boyes
Gail Dimitriadis & Leanne White did a presentation on water safety biomechanics as a precursor to learn to swim.
It was well thought out and members requested that the presentation be made available in hope to get ideas from the ladies to implement in their programs.
Gail and Leanne are currently working on a dry/land program for areas that don’t have access to water or a pool in order to still be able to teach water safety.
Karen-Tui Boyes is the CEO and Founder of Spectrum Education and Spectrum Online Academy. Karen is also a champion of lifelong learning.
She did a very informative presentation on giving presentations which was well received by members who are keen to be able to present to other Rotary Clubs.
What Our Members Are Doing
In Zimbabwe, Lana's Ducks Swim School (and a proud member of GWSDPRC) received a donation from YMCA in Australia for the Orphans at our local Children's Home. Children were excited to get some googles and a few costumes and can't wait to get back into the pool. Our first project trying to build our reputation within our community and formed a partnership with GWSDPRC. We borrowed a banner from my nearest RC in Harare 430 km away from us which is evidence that friendships have been formed amongst all Rotarians around the world.
In Gambia, free swimming lessons for 30 young Gambians aged 8 to 16 are being conducted by Swim For Life and its partners. The program is designed to help curb drowning by learning to swim at a young age.
And in South Africa, Siyasindisa Academy taught swimming at a school for the deaf during September which is Deaf Awareness Month. Children learned basic survival skills and water safety to prevent drownings. These lifesaving skills are essential and even more so for these children who live in rural areas where they are at higher risk.

We need someone with an artistic flair who can create marketing materials for distribution.
We also need someone who is Social Savvy to post articles about our latest projects and fundraising activities.
Following the resignation of our meeting co-ordinator, we also need someone reliable to share dates and times of meetings and distribute minutes with members.
