December 2022

Well we have survived our first 6 months as a club.  It is almost a relief as I can see projects coming together, and the leadership team is taking shape with a team of dedicated professionals taking up the reins to raise funds and deliver projects on time.

This is the time of year when everyone makes new years resolutions. I hope everyone will make a promise to themselves to spend 1 hour a week every week to do something for our club to achieve our goals and ensure the success of our projects.  I would like to encourage every member to join a committee or take on a role on the leadership team. Every contribution is valued and anything you can do to help us share the load will help.  As I have said before, if you want to feel part of the journey then don't sit on the side lines, get involved and support our projects to ensure every child has access to quality learn to swim programs.

Our focus is to save lives. This is not an easy task and creating generational change takes a team of like-minded people working together with that single goal in mind.  If you truly want to make a difference then take some time now to update your profile and do some basic training on My Rotary.  Some of the training is only 15 to 20 minutes long.  These courses are a great way to learn how we can work better together.

Lets not just IMAGINE a world with zero drowning, let's make it a reality!!

2023 will enable us to stop talking and 'Walk the Walk'!!  As a cause based club we need to lead by example and stretch ourselves just a little bit further to encourage others to participate in the journey.  We have achieved a lot already and there is a lot more to do.

We are looking for members to step up and support us with our projects:

1. 2023 Asia Project to Chiang Mai, Phuket and Cambodia
2. Open Water Challenge (Australia)
3. Swim a thon
4. DG CPR challenge
5. The 2nd Dip

We need people to help with admin, marketing, grants, training, youth support, programming and so on.  My Rotary is full of short easy to  follow training to help you with any role you take on.  You can do it or you wouldn't be here, I am hoping you will decide to move from the sidelines and join us on the frontline to make a difference.

As we finish up for 2022, I ask you to please Stay Safe and well, and if you do drink please hand the keys to someone else. We need to see everyone back, recharged and invigorated in 2023.

Thank you everyone and I wish you all ENOUGH!!

To you and your family have a merry Christmas, Chanukah or however you celebrate this time of year and a prosperous 2023!!

The Swimming Gift
We are now moving into the final preparation to release this fundraising program early in 2023.

Asia Mission 2023

We have now confirmed our program for Chiang Mai and Cambodia. We have a district grant in request for this project to pay for qualifications and resources. Parties are preparing our flights, transport, accommodation and meals whilst we are away. We are also in conversation with Phuket to see if we will be able to include Patong Beach with training whilst we are there.
2nd Dip

We currently have several projects connecting with the 2nd dip to address the barriers to participation in swimming lessons.

a. We are working with the YMCA to receive swim nappies for a special school in SE Qld Australia

b. Swimwear, goggles, caps etc are being sourced for the Asia Mission in February 2023.

c. Equipment is being sourced including CPR charts for pools in Thailand and Cambodia
Rhythm of the Water

This program is well under way with the training program for Chiang Mai now complete. We are currently adapting the program for a 2 day training course in Cambodia. In January we will review the content again to modify the program for open water and incorporate participants with learning challenges.
Swim a thon

February also brings the end to our Swim a thon held in New Zealand over the summer months. Lets hope we have created awareness of our club and raised lots of funds for our projects.
DG CPR Challenge

On 28th March we will be running a CPR session for Pine Rivers RC. We are expecting 25 people and PRRC have agreed to allow us to use the event to raise funds for our cause.
Open Water Challenge

The open water challenge Solstice Swim takes place on
25 June 2023. GWSDPRC is the beneficiary of this
fundraising event by the RC Alexandra Headlands
