Another month has passed with Easter sitting in the middle and whether you celebrate or not or share the same dates as other religions it is normally a time for rest. This year for the first time in many decades Easter fell at the same time for most of the major religions. This won't happen again for another 30 years.
As for our club, the Asia Tour is gradually winding up as trainees start to receive their qualifications. It is also time to look to our next project the Rotary Water Safety Campaign. The fundraising event for this project is the Solstice Swim on 25 June and we are working hard to bring in more interest. At the same time we are progressing with the learn to swim and surf awareness project that will roll out in Terms 3 & 4.
This month saw several members come up with some great projects that we hope to bring to fruition. Watch this space for more exciting news in the weeks to come.
It also seems that time flies by very quickly in this space and our 6 monthly invoices were sent out and are due at the end of May. This is a time when people often reflect on whether they are achieving what they set out to achieve through our connection and whether they should continue on this journey. It is important to keep in mind that life is a journey. There will be highs and lows and sometimes the road gets bumpy. The difference between success and failure is working through those hard times and coming out the other side stronger and more determined. The Asia tour has taught us the power of our collective voice and how much we can achieve together.
I look forward to another month of growth and success as I head to Melbourne to represent our club at the International Convention and hopefully spread the word and bring in some sponsors to strengthen our capacity to deliver.
As we move forward towards the fund raising element of the project The Solstice Swim on 25 June 2023 things are starting to get busy. The Rotary Club Alexandra Headlands is marketing the open water swim and Surf Life Saving Maroochydore have agreed that our club will receive 100% of the funds this year.
Our swim program is also expanding. We have met with the school chaplaincy and have established a school to take part in the program. We will run 2 groups of 6 students in Term 3. Lessons will be 45 mins x 8 weeks and Surf Life will run a surf awareness program for the students. We have also been asked to include some international student. Funding is being considered for both projects.
As part of the beneficiary of this project we are committed to running local projects on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia. These programs we hope will later be shared in other locations both on and off shore.
We are hoping to run an international project with any surplus funds, so watch this space for more projects in Africa.

Rotary International Convention
27 - 31 May 2023
With convention just 3 weeks away it is a great opportunity for our club to get our cause out to fellow Rotarians and gain support for our projects.
The Events committee has met and decided to create a new banner for People of Action and we have flyers, posters, brochures and badges for sale. We will be selling badges for AUD 20 and hope to raise around $6,000 if we can sell them. With 35,000 Rotarians visiting over the 4 days we hope to do some great work spreading our message.
MP will be in attendance and looking after our stall at the House of Friendship will be her husband Stuart who is an honorary member of our club and we hope to see Peter as well.
The Swimming Gift
The Swimming Gift is now moving forward with a new committee to take the helm in the new Rotary year. So far we have delivered a massive Triple T project in Asia and several pick ups and drop offs for the 2nd Dip. We are currently working on a District Grant with the RC Albany Creek to get some reusable swim nappies for Pine Rivers Special School in Queensland Australia.
We need to focus on ways to raise funds to ensure we have sufficient funds to support programs wherever they are needed. It is important to note that delays caused by fundraising is taken up on the ground by developing projects to train teachers prior to commencing learn to swim programs.

As chair of the Mummy Eve Project I am joining together with Shelterbox to raise funds for people suffering homelessness due to disasters and emergencies. Our Mummy Eve packs are designed to support new mothers for the first month post birth when systems and infrastructure do not provide for those in need. Shelterbox is a leader in business structure and development in this space. So, to learn from them, I am taking the challenge. 6 Days in the Tasmanian wilderness sleeping under the stars to raise AUD 3,000 for this great cause.
