Message from the President
As we settled into our club, I took off for a well-earned trek across Central Asia to clear the cobwebs and take a good look at our strengths and weaknesses.  Upon my return, to my delight I found the club still standing.  Well done Acting P. Phil for filling the space, and the team for keeping the ship from sinking.

We had some great presentations at our meetings, setting the pattern to grow and learn together.

Sadly, we lost 3 board members in that time for personal reasons and we accept this is going to happen from time to time.  When looking for people to fill the roles I reflected on the time the original board was selected.  None of us knew each other, it was all such a new concept in April this year.  Now, as seasoned Rotarians, we know what to expect and our new look board is even more exciting as we get to know our roles.

Our focus this quarter has been on setting up protocols and procedures for all our jobs, to give coordinators greater clarity of expectations and functionality of their role.

With all that, we have still had time to roll out some of our projects.  Our first District grant was approved and we have funded our first Swimming Gift project in Zimbabwe.  Adding on to this, our New Zealand members are organising a fundraising Swim a thon for December and we have the DG charter challenge, with the first CPR training in January with a request for participants to make a donation to the foundation.

The best advice I can give members at this stage is to 'STEP UP'.  Do the online training on My Rotary, learn new skills and take on a role, big or small, in the club.  Projects are rolling out and we are looking for people who demonstrate strong leadership skills to manage and deliver.  We need members who promise to deliver, and then keep their promises.

This, our first quarter, has been a  time to reflect on the four way test!  Are people telling us the truth? Will their actions bring goodwill? Will their actions bring better friendship? And will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Projects do not just happen.  If you want help, support and funding for your community then you will need to STEP UP and take on your share of the pie.

With the final door closing on our first quarter, I can't wait to see what the next quarter brings along with Santa Claus.
Rotary Monthly Theme
Namayingo District Grant Project
The Namayingo District Grant project is now in full swing.  Rotarian Moses Kalanzi has met with the stakeholders and a date has been set for the training to commence on 7 November.  RC Kampala Ssese Islands in Uganda and the RC Alexandra Headland have prepared the Memorandum of Understanding, and are ready to go.  Added to this, the funds have now been received and ready to be disbursed as needed on the project.  I am looking forward to hearing how it all went from Moses after the event.  Great work Moses for bringing this fantastic project to Rotary.
Equipment Sharing
Last month we heard that Lana had received swimmers, goggles and caps from the YMCA in Adelaide so she can start her training in Zimbabwe. This month, the chaplaincy from the Moreton Bay area in Queensland Australia, has reached out to Rotary requesting support for swimwear for their underprivileged children.  I had some supplies on hand and have delivered a suitcase of swimwear, goggles and caps to assist 45 schools in the region to ensure every child can participate in their learn to swim program.
Swim a thon Fundraiser
New Zealand is preparing for their first nationwide fundraiser with our club, and the first ever with a focus on drowning prevention.

Aquatic educators are coming together from around the country.  Swim schools, clubs and public pools are getting together from every corner of the country to participate in this fundraising activity which will run from December 2022 through to February 2023.

Activities include a variety of swimming events in exchange for a Gold Coin Donation!
