RC of SCW Golf Outing A Resounding Success
By AG Bob Murray - RC of Sun City WestOn December 4, 2017; 16 Rotary Members descended on Briarwood Country Club for the Annual Members Golf Outing. The event is for Rotary Club Members only and is a fun social event for golfers.
There was, early on, a lot of concern about the weather as rain was in the forecast. However on the day of the event the weather could not have been any better. It was sunny without a cloud in the sky! A good day for a golf outing!
Each year the net champion chairs the event for next year. This causes some mixed emotions amongst the golfers. One golfer said to me "I want to play well but I do not want to win because winning means I'll have your job next year!" Another golfer said to me "I'm not a good golfer but you said that these golfing aides could help me win. Is there a limit on the number of mulligans I can buy?" There are three different golfing aides used in our tournament, they are 1) Mulligan (unlimited), 2) Free Stroke (limit 2) and 3) Transfer Tape (limit 1). A bundle was available for $20, a $20 savings if purchased separately, which included 2 mulligans, 2 Free Strokes and 1 Transfer Tape. We also sold raffle tickets for a 50/50 raffle. The proceeds from the aides and raffle sales funds the prizes Awarded.
There are several awards, they are: Low Net (Champion), Low Gross, Low Net Team, Straightest Drive, Closest to the Pin, Longest Putt and the raffle. Below are the winners:

The prizes were as follows: a trophy and name on Golf Outing Plaque for Low Net, a $30 Gift Certificate for Low Net, Low Gross & Low Team Net (each golfer) and a $20 Gift certificate for each of the skill shots. The Gift Certificates were provided by the Briarwood Country Club Pro Shop.
I want to thank all of the members who participated and encourage more members for next year! I also want to thank the Briarwood Staff for helping to make this a successful Golf Outing. The Briarwood staff are Golf Pro Andy Fellows, Assistant Golf Pro David Goldsberry, David Marker Catering Director, Banquet Server Barbara Murray and Assistant Banquet Server Jasmine.
