Mayor Jen Miles

Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club's March 6 speaker, Mayor Jen Miles (shown with club president Karen Brown), addressed the club on the state of the city. The Home Rule option has been approved every 4 years by voters since 1988. When it expires in 2023 staff recommends replacing it with a Permanent Base Adjustment. Miles noted the Rancho Santa Fe Interchange looks good and is expected to go to executive session in April with hopes of breaking ground by the end of the year. Water issues focus on the substation and state legislation is needed for these. Rep. Regina Cobb has proposed several bills on this but no progress yet in the State House of Representatives. Downtown Kingman has new parking spaces for tour buses and street-side seating in front of some businesses. August's primary ballot will include a measure to change the term of mayor from 2 years to 4 years. (Photo and verbiage by Jo Ann Oxsen)
